CIRCLE OF WISE ELDERS EMPOWERING EACH OTHER

Facilitated group discussion in a supportive environment, connecting members who wish to age with growing meaning, joy, and creativity. We will share aging-related victories, concerns and fears, attend to current living issues, expand the range of future possibilities, solve problems together. Members will learn strategies to age successfully from each other in a caring community of wise elders. To achieve these goals, seminar format or experiential exercises may be included when needed.

This is not a therapy group but rather an opportunity to work things through and find creative and constructive solutions to the challenges and opportunities that aging presents.

Join Dr. Bar-David, or follow in her footsteps, as she volunteers overseas while basking in magnificent sunsets and taking long walks along a firm-sand beach. Choose a time to suit you. Geila's program in Cuba will resume on January 2011.

CUBA -- This year Geila will continue to teach English to the “Abuelos de Futuro”, a circle of elders living in an agricultural community south of Cienfuegos. You can get there by purchasing a two-week all-inclusive trip to one of two seaside resort hotels, or you can book a longer stay duration. An intensive Spanish immersion course is also available with a minimum of 2-weeks’ duration. If you speak a bit of Spanish and would like to interact with a lively group of Cuban elders, this teaching opportunity may be for you.

PERU -- If you are interested in farther horizons and a larger spectrum of volunteer activities, Geila discovered the Otra Cosa volunteer network (http://www.otracosa.nl/) and volunteered on a sunset-facing shoreline in northern Peru. There she led the art program for children in a shanty town school staffed entirely by volunteers. The Corporation de Education Popular “C.E.P” school is a place that will open up your heart. Through Otra Cosa Network Geila got involved also with a shelter for abused women serving Trujillo and the mountain regions of Northern Peru. The Otra Cosa Network can connect you with 21 diverse projects of which at least one is bound to benefit by your life experience and love. You will feel very useful. If you like adventure and, in addition, happen to be an ocean surfer or would like to learn how to surf, this volunteer opportunity may be just for you.

Investment: Choose your travel and flight arrangements directly with your travel agent or with the Canadian travel agent who arranges long-term stays and Spanish classes in Cinefuegos Cuba. Air Canada has direct flights to Lima Peru. No fees charged by Dr. Bar David nor by Resilient Aging. Geila’s involvement is strictly to encourage you to fulfill yourself by volunteering overseas, and to invite you to join her program of supporting Cuban elders.
